Four-goal thumping for Vauxhall Motors
9:09am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
Vauxhall Motors...0 Boston United.....4
Four first half Boston goals condemned a lacklustre Motors side to a third consecutive defeat at Rivacre Park on Tuesday night.
The first goal came after just five minutes when a long goalkick from Paul Bastock was flicked on by Marc Newsham to the lively Spencer Weir-Daly who twisted and turned before burying a left footed strike beyond the stranded Scott Tynan.
Boston defender Tom Ward grabbed the second goal on 23 minutes when he was left unmarked to head home an Ian Ross corner from close range.
Just four minutes later, a shell-shocked Motors side found themselves 3-0 down when a Weir Daley effort was initially cleared off the line by Danny Fearnehough however the rebound came back to Weir-Daley who squared the ball to Newsham who made no mistake from six yards out.
It got worse on 41 minutes when Ian Ross played a short corner to Ben Milnes, the Boston defender delivered a pinpoint left wing cross to Newsham who headed home.
Furious Motors manager Carl Macauley changed the formation at half-time and also made three substitutions, bringing on Scott Phelan, Jonathan Egerton and Fraser Ablett in place of Louis Horne, Liam Wynn and John Lawless.
While Motors improved in the second half, they rarely threatened in the final third of the pitch.
Their best chance came on 69 minutes when Josh Wilson laid the ball off for Cole Stockton who looked certain to score with a well struck effort from 6 yards out however veteran keeper Paul Bastock was equal to it with a fine point blank save to ensure Boston kept a clean sheet in addition to going home with all three points.
