Carlsberg West Cheshire League: Cammell Laird Reserves scuppered

DESPITE a goal from Paul McDonnell, Cammell Laird Reserves were scuppered in their Carlsberg West Cheshire League Pyke Cup second-round tussle with Maghull after the cup holders rediscovered their form and hit back through Lee Tynan and Mike Cummins to clinch their place in the semi-finals.

Steve McCann and Dave Bowe bagged the goals as West Kirby Reserves beat bottom club Marshalls Reserves and relegation rivals Heswall Reserves also earned some breathing space, after they overcame Richmond Raith Rovres3-2, highlighted by a fine double from Rob Abelwhite.

Mallaby made it three wins on the bounce, and edged their way closer to mid-table sanctuary, after John Hedges, Darren Thomas and skipper, Jimmy Ashton, found the net in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Capenhurst Villa.

Two-goal Andy Kingham left his calling card, as Manor Athletic beat Runcorn Linnets Reserves 5-2, while Sam Gifford and Daley Gibiliru hit the target, as Prescot Cables Reserves won 2-0 against Maghull Reserves.

Division Three leaders South Liverpool were indebted to efforts from Kevin Martin and Gary Dunning, for their 2-0 result at Merseyside Police and nearest rivals Helsby stayed in touch after they blitzed Upton AA Reserves 6-1.

Wes Huizer plundered a hat-trick and John Coady was a two-goal star.

Mark Stockton scored twice for Chester Nomads Res, but still finished on the losing side, after Belfry came back through Colin McDonald (2), Danny Hart and John Hughes and won 4-2.
