Carlsberg West Cheshire League round-up

THE previous week's demoralising defeat had the desired effect on Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One leaders, Ashville, who came back with all guns blazing, and took out their frustrations on Southport Trinity.

Speed merchant Dave Rudge helped himself to a hat trick, and was joined on the score sheet by Chris Barrow (2) and Paul Howell, as the Wallasey challengers increased their advantage at the top to nine points.

Nearest rivals, Maghull, had Lee Tynan and Sam Wilkie on target, but forfeited another two points, after Christleton hit back through Sean Johnson and Ronnie Morgan..An own goal was enough, as Mossley Hill Ath. went third, after they won a gritty contest at Chester Nomads, while Newton's challenge went into reverse, following a 5-2 collapse at Vauxxhall Motors Res. Craig Cairns(2) Sean Keevey, Josh Walsh and Christian Benesko obliged for the winners.

Simon Andrews bagged both goals as Upton AA beat Heswall 2-0, and edged themselves nearer to mid-table sanctuary, but Cammell Laird Res.' plight worsened, after efforts from Ryan Nicol, Mark Jones, Richard Feightman and Mike Campbell earned Ellesmere Port a welcome 4-3 victory.

Respective marksmen in Willaston's 1-1 stalemate with West Kirby, were Jamie Gardner and Tom Hartley.

Division Two pacesetters, Bebington Ath. went five points clear, after a superb hat trick from Sean Heggarty anchored them to a 5-1 rout of Prescot Cables Res, and at the other end of the table, it was thumbs up for the second week running for Mallaby, who escaped from bottom spot, after a smart double from John Hedges and a diving header from Darren Thomas, clinched a hard fought 3-2 decision at Heswall Res.

Manor Ath. returned to winning ways, after they overcame West Kirby Res. by the same scoreline, thanks to goals from Andy Kingham(2) and Graham Williams.

Elsewhere, Efforts from New Brighton's Dean Connolly and Kyle Harrison, were negated by replies from Capenhurst Villa's Mike Urmston and Rob McDowell.

In Division Three, South Liverpool put ten points between themselves and nearest rivals, Helsby, when they triumphed 4-1 against Neston Nomads, courtesy of goals from Colin Deakin(2) Neil Fisher and Alex Woodcock. Third placed Mossley Hill Ath Res. saw their promotion hopes suffer, after a solitary effort from Cole Masters earned Manor Ath. Res. maximum spoils.

Liam Jameson's double was supplemented by further efforts from Squeak Clarkson, and Paddy O'Sullivan as New Brighton Res posted a fine 4-1 result at Christleton Res Adam Wilson bagged the Swans' consolation.

Fourth-placed Chester Nomads Res were indebted to strikes from Peter Fitzpatrick, Mark Stockton, Josh Fennell and Joe Imlach, for their 4-1 victory at Mersey Royal, while Belfry's 3-2 win over Upton AA Res., was confirmed by efforts from Danny Hart, Liam Blackwood and Sean Seddon. Ryan Farrell and Jordan Jones replied for the visitors.

Only one game took place in the Youth Division, but it produced a significant result, as South Liverpool leapfrogged rivals Maghull and assumed top spot, after they edged a 3-2 win at Runcorn Linnets, thanks to goals from Jake Cotsopolus, Mike Tomlinson and Callum Brown. Josh Archer claimed both goals for Linnets.
