Normal service resumes in Wirral Flyers

YET again the winner of this week's Flyers was not one of the local Wirral players; John Hignett Jnr who plays for the Walnut Tree in Liverpool continued his fine run of form and took the top prize.

In the final he was a fairly convincing winner against Nick Woodward who plays for the Port Sunlight Village and Works Club.

Hignett won through to the final by beating Peter McGhee in the quarters before having a real tussle in his semi-final match with Upton Victory Hall's John Cosgrove, only clinching a 21-20 victory with the last shot of the match.

Woodward got to the final with wins over Colin Saville and the Magazine's Andy Buchanan but in the final he found Hignett's consistent accuracy too difficult to handle.

This win gives Hignett a huge lead in the points table.

Results:

Quarter Finals: J. Cosgrove 21, F. Leech 17; J. Hignett Jnr 21, P. McGhee 11; A. Buchanan 21, J. Harrison 19; N. Woodward 21, C. Saville 15. Semi Finals: Hignett 21, Cosgrove 20; Woodward 21, Buchanan 18. Final: Hignett 21, Woodward 12.
