Tranmere Rovers' boss blasts team's 'complacency' following weekend defeat

TRANMERE Rovers' boss Les Parry has blasted the complacency that led to his squad's defeat by Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Midfielder Adam McGurk put Rovers one goal ahead of the hosts in bitterly cold conditions at Adams Park.

But Wycombe kept up the pressure and ended up 2-1 victors.

Parry told Globe Sport today: "I'm absolutely gutted.

"We should have got something out of it. After going 1-0 up, something goes wrong and it seemed as if we almost sit back.

"We've got to be able to put that 1-0 out of our minds and carry on with the game as if nothing's happened.

"It's important that we don’t get complacent when we score.

"Saturday was a good example of how not to perform. The fans don’t look at performances, they look at results.

"The first half was disappointing. We conceded two very, very poor goals. We have to do better than that.

"The frustrating thing is that we carved out clear-cut chances."

These are testing times for Rovers. Currently 17th on the League One table, they have lost five and drawn three games since the beginning of January.

Their last win was against Bury at Prenton Park on December 30.

Rovers take on Preston at Prenton Park this Saturday, February 11, with a 3pm kick-off.

Looking to the weekend, Parry said: "Preston are a big side. Last time we went to their place we were beaten 2-1, so the lads will be looking to put that right."
